Last Sandown Race for 2011

It was the last Sandown Race for 2011 and tonight, the big field (68 riders) in A Grade didn’t disappoint the spectators. Once again, Pro riders - Simon Clarke and Zac Dempster provided the bunch something to chase as both riders were on the attack throughout the whole race. The 60 minute plus 2 lap race saw many breaks escape however, only a small handful lasted more than 1 lap. At the 10 minute mark, I lifted the pace on the front, only to find 2 riders follow my wheel. We put our heads down and we had a good 3 laps off the front before we were pulled back into the bunch at the 25 minute mark.
Attacks kept coming left, right and centre and I followed a few but nothing was going to be let go.
However, at the 50 minute mark with 10 minutes of racing to go, 5 riders escaped including both Zac Dempster and Simon Clarke. The bunch chased on occasions but the breakaway was working too strong to be caught. With 2 laps to go, the gap was only 300m but on the back straight it would take a huge effort to bridge the gap. The bunch was now sprinting for 6th place and I was lucky enough to follow the right wheels to take 6th place and test the legs out in another sprint.
Overall, I had a hard race with a solid breakaway at the start, big turns on the front and then a solid sprint finish. Thanks to Torq Nutrition Australia, Monza Imports, SRAM Australia and CUBE Bikes for your support and great products!!

Happy with form right now as Bay Crits and Nationals is fast approaching.
Stay tuned for a very big and hopefully successful January.

Have a great Christmas.

Thanks, Brenton
